You can always draw your measurements out on your fabric with a regular pen, pencil or marker, but if you want the freedom to only temporarily mark on your fabric, using a marking pencil made for fabric is your best bet.

How close should quilting lines be?

While this is not an all-inclusive list, quilting lines 2″ apart should be adequate. P.S. While batting manufacturers recommend quilting distances of up to 8″ to 10″, if your quilt will be washed or heavily used, do consider adding more quilting stitches than that.

Does pencil wash out of quilt?

Soap and Water: Mix a colorless soap and lukewarm water. Use a soft bristled toothbrush to apply the mixture and gently rub the pencil marks. You may need to add a bit of rubbing alcohol. The instructions are this does not need to be washed out.
