Our family LOVES the movie The Polar Express! I mean come on… the music, the animation, and the story gives us all those warm feelings and keeps us believing. We may have even watched it twice this week already. Ah, but who’s counting!? Tis the Season!
What better way to celebrate how much we Believe than going on our very own Polar Express? Years ago I looked into train rides with Santa in our area and they were often sold out OR they were very expensive! It was just not the right time of year to spend that kind of money. Luckily, our Elf on the Shelf had another idea and all it took was a little imagination and a magical ride in (drumroll) our very own icy blue minivan!
All we need for this magical night are pj’s, snacks, tickets, and our oh so cool car! Our kids literally check every morning in December to see if Buddy, our Elf on the Shelf, left us a note with tickets to the Polar Express. Buddy watches for when our kids are extra good and helps us decide when we should take the trip.
I have been using these amazing FREE Polar Express tickets from Khrys Greco. You can find them here on her Teacher’s Pay Teacher’s Account (FYI: Even nonteachers can find great things on TPT!). Aren’t they just darling!?
We are very lucky to have many places around us that offer free light shows. This year we saw a church and 3 homes that were AWESOME. The lights follow along to music that is linked to a radio station; so we just park, listen, and watch the shows right from our car! By the way… you do not need big light displays to make it magical. Driving through any festive neighborhood works just as well!
While driving to these destinations we have snacks, sing Christmas songs, and look out in amazement at all the gorgeous decorated homes! People put in a lot of work on their houses, so is nice to get out and see them. Sometimes we write thank you cards and send them to the families of the homes we loved the most.
As simple as it sounds we have an amazing time. We stay out until their tired eyes cannot possibly stay open anymore. The girls are usually asleep before we get home. At this point, we are happy they are already in their pj’s. Brushing teeth will have to wait until the morning because they are already dreaming of the magic that Christmas brings. Overall, our time spent together keeps the spirit of Christmas fresh in our hearts and prepares us for the excitement of Christmas day!
Keep on Believing!
